Behzad Mahdavi, PhD/MBA

Behzad Mahdavi is serving as Vice President of Strategic Innovation & Alliances at Lonza, one of the world’s leading suppliers to the Pharma Biotech and Specialty Ingredient markets, and as a member of Investment and Advisory committee for C3E Venture Capital Fund, one of the most active private fund in Canada. He began in his current position at Lonza in 2010 after three years working as Head of Lonza Canada. During his entire career, Behzad worked Internationally for several private organizations, governmental companies and venture capital firms in different capacities as senior executive, advisor, CEO and board member. In these roles, he was involved in leading, managing and advising technological start-ups/companies in fund raising, strategic business development, efficient innovation management and commercialization /spinoff to create new global and profitable growth axis. Behzad is Chairman of the Board of Exosomics, since May 2017.

Antonio Chiesi, MD

Antonio Chiesi is the Foundeer of the Company, serving as CEO and CMO. He is a Medical Doctor specialized in Neurology with a wide experience in pre-clinical and clinical research. Before establishing his innovative Biotech Companies in the exosome arena and committing to the Industrial sector he was Head of Research at the Department of Drug Research and Medicines Evaluation of the Italian National Institute of Health in Roma (Italy) for 20+ years, focusing in drug development in Cancer and HIV therapeutic areas. He was Founding Member and CEO since 2007 of HansaBioMed (now HansaBioMed Life Sciences) in Tallinn – Estonia, the first company worldwide dedicated to design, production and sale of Life Science products for EV/exosome research. The Company was acquired by LONZA in April 2017.

Mario Piccione, MBA

Mario Piccione holds a bachelor in Industrial Engineering from the Tor Vergata University of Rome and a Master of Science in General Management from LUISS Guido Carli University of Rome. He also studied Financial Markets at London School of Economics and Political Sciences. He began his career in Milan as an intern in the corporate finance and M&A team of Banca IMI, focusing on industrial companies and following different transactions and IPOs. After this internship he moved into the corporate finance team of EY in Rome, and two years later he joined GWM Capital Advisor, where he gained experience in Infrastructure, Real Estate and Non-performing Loans industries. Today, he is portfolio manager in Aurora Recovery Capital, an asset management firm established by GWM and PIMCO with the aim of investing and managing Non-performing loans. Mario joined the Board of Directors of Exosomics S.p.A. in June 2017.

Luca Fantuzzi, LLM

Luca Fantuzzi graduates in law at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa and immediately begins legal practice at a law firm in his city. After becoming a lawyer, he collaborates with the legal and fiscal firm partner for Italy of the Arthur Andersen (later Deloitte) network. At the end of year 2002 he is hired by Fondazione Monte dei Paschi di Siena, where at the moment he deals with legal and fiscal issues. From September 2005 to January 2010 he is also part of the Board of Directors of Vernice Progetti Culturali, an instrumental company of Fondazione Mps, where he has specific tasks in both legal and administration fields.

Advisory Board

Ruggero De Maria, MD

Ruggero De Maria obtained his M.D. in Catania (1989) and completed the residence training in endocrinology in Palermo (1994). Then, in 1997, he moved to the Department of Hematology, Oncology and Molecular Medicine at the Italian National Institute of Health, becoming Chairman of the department ten years later.  During these years, he defined the major mechanisms responsible for the negative regulation of hematopoiesis (Nature, Science, Blood, Cancer Res) and gained international recognition in oncology for discovering cancer stem cells in colorectal and lung cancer.  From 2013 he is the President of Alliance Against Cancer, the Italian association of comprehensive cancer institutes, while serving in the advisory boards of several important scientific organizations. From 2016 he is President of the Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine. His research activities cover most of the areas of translational oncology, with a particular interest in the development of therapies for advanced solid tumors.
